Fer the good Lord commenced to hankerin' after the world somethin' fierce, and up and gave His only boy so's whoever took a notion tobelieve in 'eemort not die, but just keep on livin' with 'eem inheaven forever n' ever."(John3:16, The Hillbilly Bible)Do y'all ever thank about what kinda self control it must a took to let a feller nail railroad spikes into yer hands and feet, all the while knowin' that with a single command you could annihilate that feller and all the rest of yer enemies.Could King Jesus have done that? You bet he could have. What kind of love allows itself to be whipped with the Roman "cat of nine tails" fer a bunch a low down, ungrateful n'er do wells, most a which, these days, won't even admit God exists? Not just whipped, but whipped to shreds.Literally, skin and muscle shredded from the bone.Often, folks who got 'em a Roman scourgin' lost so much blood that they didden even survive it.King Jesus, though, not only survived it but lived long enough to carry that cross to Golgotha. What drove that man? What kind of love asks God to fergive murderers while they are in the very act of murderin' you?Always, in the movies, when ye see King Jesus gittin' crucified he still has ees underwear on.I'm told this is not quite historically accurate. |
I'm told this is not quite historically accurate.Folks was usually crucified naked, so as to increase the humiliation and shame. Now, I ask you, what drives a feller to do somethin' like that?Well, the answer is Love, y'all.Fer God so LOVED the world. He hankers after the world like a jilted lover. He muscled ees way to the top a that hill fer you, and he'd a done it even if you were the only one! That's how much He loves ye.When I first saw Mel Gibson's The Passion, to be honest with ye, I thought they might a overdone it with the violence and gruesome scourgin' and all.So, I just up and asked the Lord one day."Lord, was it really that bad?"The answer, in my heart, chilled me to the bone...Son, it was worse. |
